Past Flags Winners

Postby laxwill11 Wed Dec 03, 2008 10:58 am

With Purley & Hampstead out of the Senior Flags, I got to wondering when the last time a team other than one of these two won it. The last different team to appear in the final was Hillcroft, back in 2003/04.

The SEMLA website goes back as far as 2001/02 - does anyone have the records of years previous?
*edit* a few more added from Purley and Spencer's websites

It used to be published in the SEMLA year book many years ago - need to get Wiggy at Blues or Peter Munday to dig out the information for you - I'll ask them next time I see them.

I know Lee won it lot's in 70's/80's - Purley and Hampstead were the other top teams at the time.

Somebody must have the history somewhere.

I try to forget it, but we have lost in the final a few times :(

I don't have the records to hand but certainly Hampstead in 87/88 and more than once to Kenton if I remember correctly.

London Uni- lost to Hampstead 1990
Same in 1989 - 20-21 or thereabouts in the tenth minute of sudden death over time
Also one London victory sometime in the late 80s

Record books

Postby JC Fri Jan 09, 2009 12:04 am

Is there somewhere a list of all the Flag winners, league winners and six a side winners? If not I have a spreadsheet which we could get people to up date.

Does anyone know if a spreadsheet can be attached to Laxforums? Please advise

Hillcroft "A" s opponents in the 1989 minor flags final were Orpington. I think the 1993 result should show Hillcroft as losers in the senior final and Hillcroft A (Not Hillcroft) as losers in the intermediate.

My appearances in Flags finals

Postby JC Mon Jan 19, 2009 11:57 pm

HI James,

How are you? Will you be coming to the Veterans match on April 4th this year?

I remember playing in a Flags final match for Hillcroft which I think was in 1993, and I remembered that we lost narrowly but I didn't think it was Kenton we were playing. Also that day Hillcroft A lost their flags final. I will change the spreadsheet as you indicated.

As for 1989 minor Flags, I just can't remember playing in that game? I do remember Nigel Trodd, you and me and a kid from Croydon winning the minor Sixes that year. I'm sure I would have been playing if their had been a Flags final because that was my first season at Hillcroft and Nigel and I used to attend all the games. Can you remember who it was against or where it was played?

One last thing, Hillcroft won the championship in either 1994 or 1995 but I can't remember which year. Any ideas?

Hope to see you at the Vets game,
regards
Jon

The 1989 minor flags final was at Motspur park. Squad photo shows Messrs Trodd and Ashford but not you. As I recall, the first team were in the senior final and its possible you played for them.

The minor sixes win was the year before - I scored the winning goal in the final (my only goal in competitive lacrosse of any sort ever) Don Brown got the assist.

I can think of no reason to not attend the vets game.

Ahh, so that's what happened to Kenton; they merged to become Spencer.

How come that happened?
