Stringing kits?

ive got a bit of money coming in soon and am looking at buying some new stringing kits but as midfielders what do you prefer to use, i use soft mesh and have no experience with any others so far.

i might buy a couple just to test them out and that.

but advice and reviews welcomed here ...

Hard mesh...otherwise its a bit like playin with a butterfly net!!!

i play with hard mesh.

But then i guess it depends on how good your stick skills are.

Soft mesh = slower but better ball control etc etc.

Practice with hard mesh 1st will take a while to get used to after soft, and it has a longer braking in period

I use a trakker pro (pictures elsewhere n the site, possibly in chill out!) although I am tempted to move to a full traditional. Downside of this is apparently it will need constant looking after and re-aligning, but then I will at least have an excuse!

fresh mesh is cool, kinda has the weather resistant element of hard mesh, but stays soft enough to keep that hold. Its a shame in England we don't benefit from the great new technologies in LAcrosse, mainly due to our weather! I had a trad pocket when i was about 15, strung it myself, could fit a ball thru one of the diamonds, it was tough. If you do get one, get someone to string it , but yeh, particularly in the rain, they are v.hard to maintain.

6 diamond mesh holds its shape. Rail mesh is good aswel.

Guys just to follow on, with the original question, and from what i have read from the midfeidl stick topic.
I want to know what ways do you string your heads. Do you have pictures, if not could you please post them up, and i know people say it depends on the type of player you are etc.. so when posting can anyone who knows the pros and cons for the way you string please post that too.

i want to basically learn enough to string my own stick to a lot better standard than i know now.

heres a proton power...strung with a mid to high pocket, ideal for producing good power in shot speed, but produces more whip, not everyone can play with it.

Brine Answer with a "standard" position pocket - this produces little whip, whist being consistant, will last even when the mesh gets worn in. Use of 1 nylon and 2 V's.

Heres a Very High pocket, shooters closer together, but strung in semi-hard mesh.
(this is hard to copy becuase of the unique way the G-Force has its side walls/holes.

Pretty much yeah, I wouldn't suggest that beginners use a high pocket, it will develop bad technique! I like the hold that it creates and the speed of shot.

You know what'd be pretty handy, this forum needs some stringing tutorials.
Since I'd get steamrollered for mentioning other such places for tutorials, it might be worth somebody creating a tutorial on here for the basics like sidewalls, topstring and quick repair tips.

Out of curiosity, what is it about a high pocket that develops bad technique?

High pockets generally have more hold and you'll find it easier to throw sidearm instead of overarm. Well I do anyway.
I'm currently trying to unlearn my sidearm passing which I wouldn't have to do if I just worked on passing off the shoulder in the first place.

I love my traditional stringing, but its not for everyone. Main reasons:

a) Wet weather messes up your pocket. Badly. leathers sag and you have to realign half of the thing. As a result, if it starts raining properly rather than a light drizzle I switch to my hard mesh.

b) It takes a LOT more time and effort to look after traditionally strung sticks.


Advantages: much more customisable. can put pocket pretty much wherever you want, with however much whip you want.

Depends what you want out of your stringing really. Note also that the type of mesh you get affects it too. a 6-diamond hard mesh will hold the ball better but have a slower shot than a 10-diamond mesh, for example.
