New Season... meh

Postby UKLaxfan Sun Sep 21, 2014 2:11 am

http://englishlacrosse.leaguerepublic.c ... 93246.html

DATE TIME HOME TEAM SCORE AWAY TEAM
20/09/14 02:00 PM Heaton Mersey 5-15 Timperley
20/09/14 02:00 PM Manchester WACS 3-17 Stockport
20/09/14 02:00 PM Sheffield Steelers 5-5 Poynton

so the new NEMLA season 2014-2015 officially started today

1) Zero new posts in UK Northern
2) only three games played in Prem One
3) at least 33% of results posted on League Republic for Prem One are wrong (Mersey 15-5 Timperley)
4) Why wasn't Cheadle vs Brooklands scheduled for today?
5) Why are there only three Prem One games scheduled most weeks yet 4 on 25/10/14 & 13/12/14?
6) Are there any match reports anywhere for these games?

Does anyone care about NEMLA lacrosse anymore?

Is there some other format/platform where lacrosse is being discussed?

just curious

As you can now get results on LR and on Facebook, there is no real need to post on LF. Few people do match reports for games so none posted.

It is worrying that lots of results are inaccurate! Timperley Mersey score was a big one!

Which other results were wrong if 33% were incorrect?

33% of Prem One results i.e. 1 in 3

It's the start of the season I only know one result for certain (Mersey) and that was incorrect on LR

I have no idea if the other 2 results are correct

5-5 Sheffield v Poynton is very low scoring, was it great goalkeeping, terrible attack or did they lose the ball and had to stop play?

Has there been any big transfers?

Who are the LDOs and are there any standout players?

have any key players retired?

it is an inauspicious start to the season

This league preview has been up since thursday, and should answer most of your questions.

The league republic site is dependant on the captains/coaches entering the scores correctly. Its a simple system you just need to text the result in the correct order. If you check the LR website they have been updated now. You will have direct your questions regarding breaks in the schedule to Nick Hewitt.

Why did Cheadle not have a fixture until the week 3 of the season? Why does Mersey play 2 games them miss 2 weekends? Why does Stockport play 3 games the miss 2 weeks? None of this really helps create non-player's interest in the game. Sometime around Jan/ Feb we will be bemoaning the fact that games are being cancelled because of the weather, yet we are wasting the best weather at the beginning of the season when we could get non-players along to watch games.

Forums are no longer the #1 social media for discussion ... Facebook and Twitter have taken over. Even Inside Lacrosse Forums is patchy so that's a good indication.

I raised this back in May in a moderators discussion, with the hope of getting a promotional plan together in the off season. But nothing really developed.

I guess the question is how many people at those games know about/are registered to/still remember about laxforums? If the answer is not very many then we're unlikely to have anything posted.

When the forums 1st started there was a lot of promotion going on by word of mouth within clubs, but that was years ago, and there hasn't really been a push since, that I am aware of. If the forum's is a tool that clubs, players, supporters find useful then it needs to be promoted within the clubs again as well as FB/Twitter etc.

Re the use of forums - this medium had its day and its gone. For our summer league, we pushed marketing through facebook, word of mouth and here. Laxforums was by far and out the least effective and we will not use it as part of our marketing mix next time around.

One medium rises, another one goes down.
Offence wins games,
Defence wins championships
