East vs West Play-off Saturday April 14

Postby Chilli Mon Mar 26, 2012 1:18 pm

The East vs West Play-off Final between East Grinstead and Bath will take place at the Ibis Club, Reading on Saturday April 14

Both teams are so far undefeated this season, so there's a big prize and a proud record at stake!!

The schedule is

Best of the Rest, East Division vs West Division at 1pm

Play-off Final, East Grinstead vs Bath at 3pm

There will also be a Veterans Game at the Ibis Club Reading at 11.30am

This is open to all players 40 yrs and above.

Please let me know if you want to play so we can ensure that we have enough for two teams.

Please spread the word to the many veterans out there who may fancy a run out to relive past glories!

Is the veterans game for only veterans?

or is it veterans vs players from west 2, east 2 and east 3 like previous years?

Can possibly get a few lads from Swansea if they are interested in traveling to Reading twice as we are up for the plate final the week after!

In previous years there hasn't been enough interest from veterans to make it a game without young ringers to fill out the teams, however, if you check the other thread you'll see that there are already 20+ vets so no need for any ringers.
However, so far there has been no interest in anyone organising the best of the Rest of the East vs the Best of the Rest of the West teams, any volunteers??

I'm stuck with work/coaching for the next two weeks otherwise i'd help with the west.

But even so, I am up for playing for best of west. Can bring one maybe 2 players with me from Swansea also. 1 attack and 1 keeper definitely.

The 'Best of' game will only take place if players want it to.

The game has been in the calendar since last July, the SEMLA Committee has asked for volunteers to organise the teams, I have posted in LaxForums at least twice. Zero response to anything.

Simple fact is that if no one steps forward nothing will happen, just a gap between the veterans game (lots of players thanks to Ian Ballantine stepping up to my earlier appeal for an organiser) and the East v West play-off.

The SEMLA Committee has discussed these issues and believes that the correct strategy is to encourage and empower people to take control of different events, a good example being the County Tournament, ten people stepped forward, organised teams and now have more experience and confidence to do more organisation in the future.

Without organisers and referees, we can have hundreds of willing players but nothing's going to happen!

Would've put myself forward earlier to organise the East side if I was able to attend, assumed (along with other players I'm sure) that someone else would put their hand up.

I realise now that it's a little late in the day, but Hickey (or anyone else) if you're happy to to organise the West team then I'm happy to organise the East - even if I can't attend at least it'll get the ball rolling, can hand it over to someone else on the day

Not sure how many people would be up for it with less than a week to go, but worth trying!

Any players from the East that want to get involved and/or know anyone else who wants to, please get in contact with me via PM, email (rob.locke1@btinternet.com) or mobile (07535135946) Will send out an email to East team captains soon as well.

Sounds good bud, I hadn't intended on going due to work but managed to organise it correctly.

I'll be contacting each Selma west captain withing the next 24 hours to begin to formalise a team for the west.

If you are willing to play and can make it to the game then please let me know.

Thanks for getting involved, it's now looking likely this will go ahead, 9 confirmed for the East, 2 maybes (including myself) which I'll confirm today, and hopefully will be joined by a few more veterans. East will be playing in white
