Think it's more to do with what Mr Stanford said, aren't they 18 turning 19 in their freshman year?

Suprised that both Bratton twins didn't make it from the hype, is he injured etc or just not good enough to get into the team?

do you mean current freshmen as in becoming sophmores in september 2007 graduated HS in 2006 (probs cause they are a year ahead in school?) or as MR Stamford is saying they'll be freshmen as of september 2007 graduating HS in 2007, as they'll turn 19 during the next school year.

I was surprised by this as well, there are a number of players who dominated at the Under Armour All American game who were expected to dominate at the trials as well.

The Team was picked by a 24 man selection committee over 4 days of trials, from what I've read the two twins are different types of players.

Shamel is a lefty with a powerful outside shot, and the more aggressive dodger of the two. Rhamel is a righty and more of a set up man than a finisher, he does his best work between the restrainers rather than at either end.

The other benefit to picking both is that they play well together but on a USA team every player has to earn his own place.

There may also be some politics involved in the selection process, as they have picked a variety of ages for players from Juniors in High School to a couple of freshmen in College. There are seven different States represented on the team as well.

from the uslacrosse tryout faq.

•Applicants may not turn 19 on or before 8/31/07 to be considered for an invitation to tryout

So if a player turns 19 in sept 07 he can play, and by the time the tourney comes around be almost 20 with a full season of NCAA lax under his belt as a freshman.

I think Coach Weddell was refering to the 2 guys:

Craig Dowd (East Northport, N.Y. Northport ’06) Georgetown

James Green (Doylestown, Pa. Central Bucks East ’06) Ohio State

Who would have played college ball this season just gone, therefore could have 2 years of collge lax experience before going into the championships, probably because they are a year ahead at school and are 19 or under 19 on the 1/09/2007. Thereofre legit to play.

well the cut of date in the uk for age splits is something stupid like the 4th of sept and if born on 1st, 2nd, 3rd they have the choice of what year to go into. So they are probably the youngest players in their year. Which is sweet as they have the 2 years collage exp

This is an important distinction as in effect it is an U20 Tournament.

You can be 19 yrs 11 months when the U19 games start.

Team USA will have two College Sophomores

Craig Dowd Georgetown

Rhamel Bratton added to US Roster

Rhamel Bratton, a 2007 graduate of Huntington High School (N.Y.) and a freshman midfielder for the University of Virginia, has been named to replace Duke freshman midfielder Justin Turri on the 2008 U.S. Under-19 men’s lacrosse team. Turri was injured in the fall and has been unable to play this spring.

Bratton has scored seven goals and added six assists for the Cavaliers, who are 9-1 and ranked fourth in this week’s USILA Division I poll. Bratton was selected from the pool of alternates that took part in the tryout for the team last July. He will join his brother, Shamel, on the U.S. team. Shamel is also a freshman at Virginia.[/b]
