The Hatfield Wiener Fest Box Lacrosse Game

Postby BFSalmi Thu May 12, 2011 8:27 am

Welwyn Warriors Lacrosse Club would like to invite you to the 1st Wiener Fest Box Lacrosse Game, held at the Hatfield Leisure Centre.

Our Canada-bound Juniors will soon be facing Kanucks indoor-style, and we’ve organised for them to spend one evening in June (Friday June 3rd, 7-9pm) within an indoor rink, playing fast & furious BOX LACROSSE. AND WHAT’S BETTER THAN INVITING OTHER FELLOW LAXERS TO JOIN THE PARTY.

Details below

Friday June 3, from 7pm -9pm.
Hatfield Leisure Centre, Travellers Lane, Hatfield, Herts, AL10 8TJ

Easily accessible by train from London, Cambridge and Hitchin (20min walk from train station).

Minimum Essential gear includes – HELMET, GLOVES, ELBOW PADS, KIDNEY PADS AND SHOULDER PADS. BOX STRONGLY RECOMMENDED.

Many may not have all the adequate gear, but let this not deter you from coming. We will offer a free drink (beer/soft drink) to anyone who brings extra shoulder and kidney pads to share.

We are asking for £5 per head, if you confirm attendance and pay by May 28th (£8 at the door). The money will cover the booking and referee, and any additional money will go towards our Junior tour!

If ball, email Bertrand Salmi on standevo@hotmail.com or call me on 07 853 953 908

We only need to know if you have any equipment requirement or if you have additional gear you can bring to the party.

We all know BOX is unchartered territory for most British laxers out there but we are inviting anyone who wants to give it a go to come along. This isn’t about playing beautiful world class lacrosse (will definitely have a DIY feel to it), it’s about trying something different! And if this attracts enough curious laxers, it may become a recurrent event!

Hope to see you there.

The venue for this is a proper box, with shot clock timers and box goals.

Anyone wanting to try out box this is ideal for you.

I can honestly say it's the most fun version of lacrosse I've ever played.

Wiener? doesn't that indicate that the festival is in Vienna?

Not in this context I'm afraid.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hot_dog

It refers to the fact that anything we seem to organise turns into a humongous sausage-fest, or wiener-fest as we put it.

That really sucks the fun out of the name having to explain it :?

Ah ok so you mean Wienerwurst as in the type of sausage that comes from Vienna. Interestingly in Vienna they call it a Frankfurter

The tournament should be called Das Wienerwurstfest

The Venue is a sport hall with walls on 3 sides and a net + board on the fourth. It has two gates on the net side, which will allow for entering and exiting the "rink".

Boarding wil be possible on all 4 sides, bouncing against the wall on the walled sides, possibly on the net depending on how tight we can get that net secured!

Not a perfect rink but it is used by an in-line hockey club so will do the trick just fine.
