Ok Kieran, my phrase was contextually inaccurate and lacked precision.
What I intended to convey was the that in the specific discussions concerning that County Tournament no one had foreseen that bad weather, which we can all agree has happened before, would lead to Clubs choosing to play re-arranged fixtures on the day of the County Tournament which could impact on the ability of counties to take part.
If we had considered that the Committee may have decided to 'ban' re-arranged games on that day which some people, with the benefit of hindsight have now suggested.
The fixture schedule has for several seasons included free weekends specifically for weather affected games, the really bad spell this year used those up and left the County day as the only other 'free' weekend.

OK, that's a bit too brief. I'm sure someone else can chip in with full results, but here's a little bit more info:

Devon weren't able to make it, but we were treated to the newly annexed Southern County of "Belgium". My geography is a bit rusty - did that used to be in Mercia? Anyway, the tournament started in a slightly asymmetric fashion - County games on pitch 1, which pitch 2 saw the tail end of Spencer v Reading which started at 10:15. That league match out of the way, tournament went into full sawn-off double-barrelled shotgun mode.

It would be fair to say that we weren't treated to the heatwave of last weekend. More like brass monkeys. But at least it was dry. A seemingly endless set of games, 10 minute halves, with possession after the goal going to the defending team at goal-line extended.

Some counties appeared to have players from every component club, others for reasons mentioned elsewhere in this thread ended up being pretty much one club. Both laudable in their own way.

Notables:
Oxfordshire. Which was Reading. Most of them had probably played in the morning league game first.
Bath looked to be another one-club county.
Herts entered fully into the spirit of the tournament, enjoying themsleves to the max, playing at 100% all day, and were deservedly one of the finalists.
London (technically Greater London) looked to have multiple players from many clubs, and again some of the Spencer team that had already played a league match earlier.

Finally the trophy was presented to the winning captain by European Lacrosse Federation president Peter Mundy - then time for a retreat to the warmth of the bar.

Trevor Rogers and Ray Nash were key organisers; the referees were lead by Jon Harrop and included Trevor, John, Hazel, Buckers and me; there were even a couple of retailers there selling lacrosse kit. What more could you ask for? Apart from warmer weather of course... :)

The final was 3-1 to Greater London, a very hard fought game but i agree with above, that both teams deserved to be there. Great performances from all the teams and i'd like to thank the rest of the referee team for passing on some pearls of wisdom throughout the day, i learnt loads and feel really confident working as part of a 3/4 man team now.

Thanks to Trevor Rogers and Ray Nash for a good day, and much gratitude to the hard-working zebras.
Promise 1. Next year Essex will be clearly identifiable; Herts really were an inspiration of lacrosse professionalism, so some credit goes to the foghorn LDOs.
Promise 2. We will again include all the constituent parts of the Essex patch; yesterday we even had representation from the embryo Chelmsford Rams.

I want to echo the thanks to the organisers and all the referees who came. It was a great day of lacrosse. Always amazing to see so many teams playing on 2 pitches side by side constantly through the day. The final in particular was a great game and London really raised their game for it against a Herts team that had been taking no prisoners up until that point.

With regards to the Oxfordshire team we were admittedly only representing 2 clubs (Reading and Oxford University) but had players from the 1sts, 2nds and 3rd team. Reading university were on tour and I didn't get any contact from Oxford City. 7 of our squad of 14 had played the initial match against Spencer.

Regardless I thoroughly enjoyed the day. I can understand that the date caused some problems due to rearranged fixtures but I think there are always going to be issues finding a date that suits everybody.

Fair play, sounds like a great tourney.

How many teams in the end?

Of the finalists, which clubs did they pool from?
