Which team to play for?

Postby buckers_the_great Wed May 11, 2011 2:14 pm

Well next season I am looking for a new team, I have moved to Aylesbury so am positioned to potentially travel to Reading, Welwyn, hitchin and maybe other teams, depending on who ends up entering the league.

I will be looking to split my season between playing and Refereeing (doing my Basic Course this month).

Which clubs would people recommend and are any clubs looking for an extra player who is keen to ref too :?

OK, I'll start the bidding!
You'd be very welcome at Reading, we're entering a third team next season so there will be plenty of opportunities for playing and reffing.
Many weeks we'll have two home games to cover.
Reading provides high standard coaching from the two American LDOs every Tuesday, a well established club social life, a growing junior programme (if you want to get involved) and regular Club tours to European and American tournaments.

I'm sure you would be more than welcome at any of the 3 teams you mention.

I currently live just south of Milton Keynes and I play for Welwyn (having picked up the game playing for Hertfordshire Comets university team). The fact there are 3 teams at Welwyn is the primary reason I stayed with them - I play and train with the Prem team when I'm on form, I keep my fitness up with any of the teams, and if/when injured there is usually a home game to ref.

let me know if you want any contact details of people at the club,

Cheers

A good sales pitch from two teams, nice start! Hopefully others looking for a new club or even to start playing the game will also see this and it will help them too.

Don't know how flexible your job is, but if you can get free on Wednesday afternoons there are extra opportunities to referee BUCS matches half an hour away in Oxford.

I'm sure Oxford Uni and/or Oxford Brookes would be grateful for a volunteer referee!

I might be able to get away for some Wednesday afternoons, I will approach my boss over the summer when I find him in a good mood so he agrees to as many as possible, would be a great way to gain experience.

You would be more than welcome at Hitchin. We currently have two teams, playing and refereeing opportunities aplenty! Social events already being put in the calender for next season... We have players coming from all over the place. Come down to summer training on a Wednesday when you're around if you can make it!

I'm a sought after club asset! Especially once I'm a qualified ref. Plus my scoring rate in SEMLA is one goal every game instead of half of one per season in NEMLA :)
