95th Varsity Match:
Cambridge 14 - 9 Oxford

Cambridge up 10-1 at HT, then an Oxford comeback made things tense towards the end. Many thanks to the officials and all the spectators - a great day of lacrosse across all five matches.

Hitchin A 13-14 London Uni

Close game with Hitchin ahead throughout. Game could have gone either way after London pulled back to equalize in the 4th qtr. London Uni scored the winning goal in the last 4 seconds of the game. Clean game with very few penalties. Was a pleasure to referee.

lots of unexpected results today... Especially in the prem.

London uni with another last minute surge to pull it out of the fire.

Hitchin, purley, hillcroft with big wins.

Lots of good relegation avoidance battles going on in the prem and most of the lower divisions.

Did anyone from Spencer pick up a black Adidas backpack, possibly in the changing room we were using, after the game? contains playing strip & under armour etc. If so, massive thanks - please PM me and I'll figure out how to get it from you.

Some big results today, premiership relegation battle has got very tight. It looks almost certainly like it will be one of 3 teams (though i guess there is a small chance for welwyn too).

Eg (23 points)
Hitchin (22 points - 1 game in hand over EG)
Cardiff (22 points - 1 game in hand over EG)

Hitchin and Cardiff still have to play each other so theoretically could put each other down. But both Cardiff and hitchin have better head to heads against East Grinstead.....So by my (possibly dody maths) East Grinstead have to win or at least draw one of their remaining matches (purley looks the best shot after the recent results).

On the subject of premier league promotion/relegation.....does any one know if any teams would be keen on moving up from the divisions below. (Having played Premier League, East 1 and West 1 in the last few seasons) IMHO Cambridge are a good outfit in East 1, though would struggle severely in the prem, Bristol look the best candidates (club side and reasonably strong accross the park), but again i imagine it will be hard going, and as Cardiff are probably the strongest side East 1 and West 1 have produced in recent years it looks even harder for teams that possibly aren't as strong as them! (but then again i guess thats life!)

My personal belief is that despite their relative quality, any team of those top 3 teams going up this season will have a very torrid time next year. (to the extent that i wouldn't be shocked if there was a nine team premier league next season due to no team wanting to go up, or no team goes down [unless they want to]), but as that's only conjecture i'd be interested to know Cambridge, Bristol and Portsmouths views on the matter.

I'd want to go up....for sure....
We have a few guys on the squad with Prem experience and I think the others are very capable of playing at that level so I don't see any reason not to go up haha

The annual Hillcroft/Blues Mudbowl

...an absolute cracker...

Hillcroft up 6-2 at half time

Blues pulled it back to 10-10 a few second from the end- Hillcroft managed a cheeky finish to seal it

Awful pitch- many thanks for Blues for a great game

Well fair play to you guys! I guess one of the big things in your favour over a lot of southern uni teams in this position is that a number of your more influential players are in the earlier years at uni! Good luck with the promotion push then!
