UEA will more than likely be re-entering a team in SEMLA for the 2011/2012 season. All Non university players welcome! It is just this year we won't be entering.

Why don't UEA players just play for the Norwich team, similar thing to Uni of Essex playing with Colchester.
Surely it will help students get more experience, helps bolster the numbers and gets student players more involved in lacrosse.

The SEMLA team will be open to players from outside the Uni, so shouldn't really make a difference in bolstering numbers and getting more players involved. It will be easier for players outside the uni to play SEMLA for a team that has in the past played in SEMLA and has all the kit and pitches available. In SEMLA UEA won't be playing as a university team but as a club team, which can provide all the facilities and kit. The only pain is that we won't be playing this year.

Well....here is the thing. The Union kind of say no to people outside the uni coming and training because you won't have the relevant sports insurance. It is an issue which we are looking at further. I will have to talk it over with our president and get back to you, but hopefully we can sort something out!

from my understanding Its well known that UEA union has issues with outsiders playing/training with students. And I'm sure that the Norwich guys will be sure to have some structure in place for next year if you guys did combine.
We have had great success with a similar system here in Colchester, with uni players joining others from the area and can strongly recommend it. I know first hand most of the east coast guys have valuable experience to pass on to your guys.

Okay, well the unions decisions are a UEA matter so try not to make assumptions. If it possible for outside players to come and train with us then it is something we will look into. As of next year, it is more than likely that UEA will re-enter SEMLA as we have played in it most years. This will be open to players from outside the University. The Uni was and will be able to get a SEMLA team out from university players alone, however in SEMLA it is not a Uni team and it will always be open to non uni players and that should apply to training next year as well.

Bute the Union will not allow non-students on the UEA buses so it'll be make your own way to games. Which is fine

The union will not allow non-students to use equipment - fair enough if the Norwich guys have spares

The union/sportspark is arsey about non-students on the playing fields - I guess just don't tell them

Maybe they have relaxed a bit over the years, but the UEA union is very restrictive. Additionally the UEA ground is poor with poor facilities. Access is good though from the road.

Would the UEA guys train in the evenings? Could the sportspark be booked? They've always told me "no" as Lacrosse is too dangerous.

J-lo in response to the above...

Uea are a club team when it comes to semla.

We are not associated with the union, so we have to fund our own transport and petrol unlike in bucs. Put facilities, although not perfect are not bad, an we also offer or of the best pubs around for after training and games. Our kit, I'm sure is available to everyone, although I'm sure those who wan to play will probably have their own equipment. Yes, the only problem is with non uni players playing on the pitches due to insirance and this is somethig we are looking in to. The sportspark will slope the club to train On the 3g pitches as we did last year, but yes, it is considered to dangerous to play on the astro that is unprotected. If you want to join a Norwich team then you are more than welcome. However we will be entering a semla team next year that will allow bob uni players to play as the club will not be affiliated with the university.
