Source: Lacrosse star Cody Jamieson to play for Syracuse

Postby Mr.Stanford Thu Apr 23, 2009 8:30 pm

Inside Lacrosse learned this morning from a Canadian source close to Cody Jamieson that the highly touted Six Nations and Onondaga Community College star will play for Syracuse this Saturday at UMass.

The attackman has been enrolled at SU and practicing with the Orange since January, but the NCAA has yet to clear his eligibility. When reached this morning by IL, Syracuse sports information director Mike Morrison had just spoken to head coach John Desko and could not confirm the news (also reported this morning by Syracuse.com’s Dave Rahme). Morrison said they were checking with SU’s compliance office before commenting.

Jamieson was the 2008 NLLInsider.com Junior A Player of the Year after leading the Ontario Lacrosse Association and all of Canada in scoring last summer with 101 points in 21 games. He scored 237 points and won two junior college championships at OCC, and in 2007 was named the top male athlete in the NJCAA and won the Tom Longboat Award as the Male Aboriginal Athlete of the Year.

Currently roommates with Syracuse defenseman (and fellow Six Nations product) Sid Smith, Jamieson could be the top pick in the ’09 NLL Entry Draft should be come out. Because his eligibility clock started with his 2006 season at OCC, he only has one more year to play in the NCAA (2010, according to the four seasons in five years rule), regardless of whether he plays this season for SU.

Syracuse has rotated through junior Chris Daniello (17G, 2A) and redshirt freshman Tim Desko (9, 2) at the third attack spot next to Kenny Nims and Stephen Keogh, who have combined to lead SU with 93 points. The No. 2 Orange project as a second seed in the NCAA Tournament according to IL’s latest bracket.

Having watched Jamieson dominate the junior college ranks in person and on film for this ESPN2 and InsideLacrosse.tv piece on Native Americans in today’s lacrosse game, it’s clear the 5-10, 190-pounder has the quick feet, stickwork and power to put up big points in the NCAA. OCC coach Chuck Wilbur has said he has DI Player of the Year potential.

Stay tuned to InsideLacrosse.com for more on this breaking story.

Great news. I will be very interested to see if he will have the impact that he has been touted to have. He's been training with the team for months so there should be no lack of chemistry.

Just remains to be seen whether Desko will throw him straight in there as a starter against Umass. Think that alone will show how he is viewed by the Orange.

I was hoping to see him on the field more, he got about 3 mins, touched the ball 3 times beat his man twice.

Should have had an assist to Max Bartig who was wide open on the crease but fluffed it.

Jamieson did put the ball in the net on the next dodge and drew a push in the back, unfortunately it was called and the Goal was disallowed
as Cody landed in the crease after he scored. :|

From what little I saw he looked better than Chris Daniello #14 and Tim Desko #21 who have been splitting playing time at the left sided attack position all season.

I would hope that after having a Full week of practice with the starters this week Jamieson (#43) will get much more playing time next week vs Colgate in final game of the regular season.

I don't understand why he wasn't given more time today, initially when he didn't play in 1st half I thought they might be considering appealing for an extra year of eligibility and applying for a Redshirt year, which is very unlikely.

Coach Desko knows best what he's doing, we'll find out soon enough what that is.

Not a great match as I've got Jamieson in my lax.com fantasy team- took him as a bit of a pre-season gamble...
Nice to see he finally got on the pitch, but would be nice for him to have a bit more game time next week.
