Lacrosse ball finder invention

For my engineering class we have to develop a product and go through all the designing and building steps. My idea is to make a device that is capable of tracking lost lacrosse balls. I will put a Radio Frequency ID (RFID) chip in the lacrosse ball and connect it to a device with a screen with a hot and cold indicator to show your distance from the ball. I have not figured out all the details for the device but this is the basic concept. What do you guys think? In order to succeed with designing and building this I need other players opinions.
