Gait Nuclear Legal?

Postby DanSawyer Mon Apr 04, 2011 1:20 am

Anyone know whether the Gait Nuclear is legal for play over here? I can't find the dimensions but I've seen that it's a box head. Don't wanna waste money on one I can't use...

most box heads are legal. The head must be at least 4" wide i believe at the top. Whereas in the states for field its something like 6.5"

Those figures are just off the top of my head though.

However I'm pretty sure the legal limits for the UK have been changed coming into effect in September so while box heads are currently legal I'm not sure they still will be.

Should have made this clearer: I know that heads will have to be 6" at their widest point. What I don't know is how wide a nuclear is at its widest point.

At their widest point, that is? i.e. usually just below the scoop.

OK, a little bit of work has revealed that laxmonkey lists the nuclear under NFHS heads. As far as I can tell, that makes it at least 10" long and 6.5" at the widest point. So that's still legal next season, right?

Hey, I just measure one and it's 6.5" wide at the widest point and 10.5" long (ballstop to scoop) and is legal as far as I'm aware...size wise it is a fairly standard lax head. I have a few that have been strung up as well as the unstrung heads on the website.

Cheers. I've actually gone for a Mutant in the end. Shocked to discover it can't be strung trad (lots of small topstring holes instead of four big ones). Didn't the Gaits use trad stringing???

just string a topstring and attach the leathers to it where it seems right. Use thin string if needed, eg. crosslace or sidewall. Although Rock-It Pocket seems to have managed to put the leathers through somehow. Might want to try pulling them through when still wet and warm, or use a pair of tweezers. If it's not on warranty, (say from clearance) just drill it some larger holes, or file them down.
I like to string and I like to help my fellow stringers. Drop me a line if you need help, be it stringing mesh pockets, custom pockets, repairs etc.

I guess in the modern market, few people use trad so they're adjusting to to demand...although you wouldn't think it'd be hard to make them compatible for trad.

Quite. Just make the topstring holes big enough for leathers...
