Players in the RAF!

Postby buckers_the_great Thu Oct 25, 2007 12:32 pm

Players in the RAF! - and the rest of the military

I am currently the Chairman of the RAF Lacrosse Association and i am trying to build a database of players around the RAF that play lacrosse (even if not currently).

If you fit my description above, or know of some who does please get in touch. I am busting a gut to develop this sport in the RAF so any support would be great.

If there are Navy or Army guys out there also feel free to get in touch and i will point you in the right direction for the lead in your service.

Cheers

Hey Buckers,

Myself and jpfathead here on the forum both work on the RAF LITS Project for IBM.

It's a bit tenuous, but I know that we also support UCCS at RAF Boulmer (along with the rest of the UK).

We play for the Birmingham Bulls currently, but are always interested in more game time.

Also, you may well want to contact RAF Leeming as they have some lacrosse connections up there. We played the Uni tournament up there last year, and they did have a couple of experienced guys.

Cheers,

John.

I am in contact with the guys from Leeming, there isn't that many players left down there and i now have most of their kit but i have an 'agent' down there.

Its a random link but we can always do with extra players, especially those who are playing on a regular basis. PM me your details and i'll keep you updated on stuff we have coming up.

There's a guy at Bristol Uni who has been coming on quite nicely. Think he has an RAF bursary and intends on joining next year... another banked for the future?

Do they ever play?? Or is it a similar situation to RMAS in East 2's where they are frequently forced to conceed due to work commitments?
I only ask as I'm considering a Naval career after uni but want to continue playing.

The Navy do have a team of sorts, again its difficult for them to get support with operational commitments.

The Services need as much support as we can in the development of the sport and the more players with previous experience we have join the better.

If you want more info PM me and i'll pass on the details of the Navy team.

Nige Gates played at Nottingham in goal a few years ago.

He was a helicopter pilot in the RAF at the time and I assume he still is.

Has anyone from Nottingham got contact details as I'm sure he'd be interested in getting involved with a services team?

Despite wearing green overalls and flying helicopters Nige in fact is in the Navy! Yes, we have helicopters too. He is the current Bath keeper (along with me) and he has been involved in Navy training session but has yet to play for the RN.
