What is the best stick?

Postby manc_lad Mon Sep 18, 2006 9:55 am

Being busy working and all, I've not had much time to keep up on the new sticks on the market. What are peoples fave sticks and why?

For keeping it has to be the warrior nemesis. Gives you some sweet clears and is less likely to spin when struck by the ball. For midfiled I like either the Razer pro also form warrior for its strength or the proton power which is an awesome all rounder head.

lol - You've opened a can of worms here!
I'm sure between everyone we'll name every stick out there!
So here's my contribution....

Evo Pro + Titan Pro
Box Pinched modified Razor + Levitation
Matrix + STX Ti
E3 + MP Swizzle Ti Limited Edition

Mixed stick (ready for chippies new league!)
Brine Truth + Brine Magnum FlipGrip

Most modern sticks are pretty sweet to use, the main differences are
Attack : Defense
Strength : Weight
Simple design : New Technology

All these choices depend on what you like the feel of the most,
If you want any mint heads/shafts, let me know i have a few knocking around!

I think you'll find it was Hi-Wall Tom. More a one word - hyphenated.

I know. I had one.

That's a good one. What has been your stick evolution, from start to finish?

I started playing about 18 years ago. This is mine:

Brine Superlite 2+2 (orange) - hand me down (dad)
STX Hi-Wall (golden/yellow) - bought (Hattersleys)
STX Turbo (in Syracuse colours) - bought (Hattersleys)
STX Viper (white) - second hand (Boardman LDO)
STX Excalibur (white) - found in garage (transitional stick)
Brine Edge (white) - bought (Lax World - Baltimore 1998)
Not sure (white) - second hand (Boardman Coach)
Warrior Evolution - bought (UKLacrosse - Bath 2006)

That's it. 8 heads in 18 years.

good thinking... heres mine

Brine Shogun
Brine M1
Brine MX
Brine Vapor (custom dyed then nicked by some toerag at the nationals in 04)
Brine Nitrous (must have used it twice - hated it)
Brine Vapor (got rid of the Nitrous, got another vapor)
STX Proton
STX Proton Power

8 heads in 16 years for me (7 if you dont count the rubbish nitrous)

Shaft-wise, ive no idea mainly cos i went through 3 last season which seems to be the norm for me. Currently using an STX titanioum with the rounded edges and ive gotta say i like it - three months old and i havent broken it yet! (touchwood)

Brine Cyber + newer model F15 in Blue
Warrior Razor + Kryptolye (snapped the head within months!)
Warrior Blade + the same kryptolyte
Warrior Evo Pro + Titan Pro
...to the list above.... but the fact i sell a lot of sticks doesn't count so i'll stop my list here!...

DUDE! You broke an EDGE!! What were you doing with it? Hitting a Rhino I presume.
The Edge is indistructable. (Unless they are baked where they loose some of there strength) But still one of the most robust heads ever made.

I broke a Debeer Titanium after 3 games, it wasn't even cold, a little wet.

I sold the replacement and went back to a Brine powergrip F10. Never broken one of these, they just tend to warp due to excessive use of sidearms.

5 Years playing:
STX Octane - Still got it, lying unstrung somewhere. Sell to fresher this year
Brine Matrix - Sidewall snapped on last game of season
Brine Matrix - Didn't learn previous lesson, sidewall snapped on last game of season (flags final)
Warrior Evo - Was backup stick. Now main stick
STX Hype - Given to me by chap from USA U19 - Horrendous stick. Flog to a fresher this year
STX Bionic - In need of a restring, will flog to fresher
Brine Matrix - Still haven't learnt, expecting it to break at next important match

Looking at getting a Proton power - anyone highly recommend it? Anyone got a bad thing to say about them?

7 Sticks in 5 years, only 2 broken.

2 F10 powergrips - Both Warped
Debeer titanium - Snapped
STX Titanium - heavy but solidly built - On the Evo
F15 Powergrip on Matrix

A few Brine Superlight II ( still got one )
Brine M1
1st Gen Matrix
Gait Triton
Harrow something or other (used 1 season & not bad)
2 PP & a Duece
Gait Torque (game stick)

Never snapped a shaft yet

Had aluminium, couple of CU31. Now using a K Pro with a few dings in it, best shaft ever.

Not too bad for 22 yrs since first picking up a stick.

Raptor - ive been using a power for about 3 months (got one for the worlds) and love it. I know mandy's had his for a fair bit longer so he's probably better qualified to say how strong it is, but its well pinched, nice idea with the throat to get your hands closer to the head for facing off, and dead light. Cant complain anyway!

brine something or other (had a big bit of plastic on outside of sode wall)
2 x protons
3 x gait tritons (some little **** stole one somewhere)
2 x bionics (use for my d-poles)
2 x eclipse (for my keeper sticks obviously)
1 x proton - went back to protons after the U19 worlds
(4 x) proton powers - didn't realise we'd be getting 3 for worlds so bought one early so i had same back up

15 heads in what 10 years (and 7 in the last year, though i only use one power at a time and not sure i've even used them all in a game yet, and two of those are keeper sticks), and 13 of them still useable!

only ones i've managed to snap are the original brine thing and all my 3 protons (though they have been used a **** lot and do still work through the magic of super glue, duck tape, stick tape and sidewall string! - its the prob with doing 2 in a game and playing the next day when you're on the raod and so not carrying round a whole bag of spare heads)

shaft wise i started old school with a 2 alu's (unsurprisingly now broken), then 3 405's (one nicked other two still going), a harrow i-beam and a titanium for my shorties. long pole snapped an alu and now using a 405. and keeper snapped an alu getting checked (though now perfect length for a shortie stick) and have now pikey'd tubbs titanium till he needs it next

raptor - proton powers - i really like them (lucky really as i now have 4). haven't had any issues with strength or warping or anything like that yet, its well light too and the csoop is good for ground balls and is pinched nicely too
ahhh ... the whit

Warrior Evo, can't go wrong with that as a middie attack head. Especially now they are quite cheap

Also a fan of the Proton Power at the moment, very nice and light.

I would go through the list of my sticks like everyone else has but being another year older tomorrow I think my memory is already failing me. Remembering 13 years worth of sticks could be quite the challenge

Well, after hearing about everyone’s history of sticks, I have just purchased a Brian e3. Looks like my kind of stick.

Hi-wall
MX
Excalibur
loads of other sticks
Some more
STX something
