Game Re-Start after Quarter Time with Man Up/Down

Postby S_24_LAX Sun Dec 16, 2012 11:59 am

Red have player off for a personal foul.

Blue take a shot on goal. Red goalie saves. End of quarter whistle is blown.

How do we re-start?

I'll tell you what I did. Re-start with a face. Red politely questioned that they should start with possession. But accepted without argument my decision.

If Red was correct then this would mean the red goalie starting in possession of the ball in his crease with his team a man down?

Clarification please.

At the of the end of the quarter RED Goalie is in possession.
The Team in possession retains possession on a man up situation
Next Quarter starts with RED possession.
As it was the goalkeeper in possesion the ball will restart 20yds RED goal line extended.

This would be regardless of which team was serving the penalty.

Hope this helps

Red were correct.

Rule 34.1 -
Play shall normally be started at the beginning of each period, and after each goal has been scored, by facing the ball at the centre of the field, subject to the following exceptions:
i) In the event of an extra man situation at the conclusion of ANY period, then the next period shall be commenced by awarding the ball to the team which had possession at the conclusion of the prior period in the same relative position on the field.
However, if the period ends with no team in possession, the ball shall be faced at the centre with all the usual restrictions.

He indicated that 'Red saved' but didn't say whether Red goalie had possession? What if goalie saved, the ball goes out of play, with Blue nearest, surely Blue would have been awarded possession? Unless the whistle goes before the ball is out of play, when neither team would be in possession.

Thanks for the clarification.

I got it wrong.

In this instance the goalie saved the shot and retained possession. In the instance UKLacrosse explains there would be no possession at that point an the restart would be with a face.

I think the refs union will be after you.

Admitting a ref is wrong you could wake up with a horses head in your bed

remember a ref is never wrong you just could have done it better
League restructure I told you so 10/3/2011(looking good on this one)
Prem division to two leagues will result in the prem division failing and being combined with Nemla 22/3/2012
the proposed restructure to 8 teams in each prem league will only last a couple of years until it has to be restructured again due to teams dropping out. 13/12/2012

Thanks Pom.

Next time I will say it was a loose ball at the time the whistle went and therefore face off.
