In the Pros NHL it makes more sense as players are paid to fight with a Bonus for putting on a good "show"
In amateur sport it makes no sense, if you want to fight there are lots of outlets to do so
Play the Game
PLAYERS THAT REGULARLY FIGHT SHOULD BE BANNED FOR LIFE
if you can't control yourself, throw them out of the League
As for the Canadian culture where fighting in sport is just boys being boys... I can't reconcile it
If you expect me to stand by and watch while one of my mates gets beaten up by a goon on the opposition, "as part of the game"
Fighting is no longer lacrosse and the game has finished at that point, there are no rules in fighting
I'm surprised the above situation doesn't happen more often,
sticks, helmets, fighting & being able to throw a projectile at 90mph is not a good combo
It a game, a sport with rules
if you want to fight, go to any town centre after midnight and you will find lots of willing participants
