Look in the back of lads mags (eg FHM) where they have the fake ID section. They have some that look remarkably like the UK driving licence.

I think the main difference is in the flag it says EU rather than UK.

To an American doorman, I'm sure they won't know the difference (Seen enough in my pub to spot them, and they're good)

I spent 3 months in California in 2001 when I was 20 and it was royal pain in the ar5e trying to get served anywhere. California is known to be very strict and in 2001 would ONLY accept passports from any foreigners. The bouncers would stop everyone at the door and shine a light in their eyes to make sure eye colour matched up on the passport.
The only other ID they would accept was a state driving license. I had a fake ISIC card so you can imagine how much use that was. I may as well have written "I am 21, honest" on a piece of paper. They even laughed me out of the the offy.

Elsewhere though it didn't seem to be quite as strict. Vegas couldn't care less as long as you were pludering money into their casino. New York took the ISIC card in restaurants where they are not quite as strict but I didn't try any bars/clubs as it was one week post September 11th.

If you're serious about drinking over there then you're probably best to get a US State Driving License online then be prepared to do some talking. Not sure whether it's best to get an obscure state one that they are not too familiar with or whether to go for the local state you are travelling to.

Otherwise it's back to asking the bigger boys to get you a bottle of cider.

I was at camp, travelled after, its basically a pain the arse, but as Dave says, really depends which state, i was in PA, and that was Royally strict. If you even looked at alcohol, you were hung drawn and quartered
