Have a Plan

Postby UKLaxfan Thu Mar 12, 2009 2:12 pm

Just watched the "Day in the Life of ... Duke Lacrosse" on IL TV.

In the changing room they have a Keys to Success with a breakdown of all the targets for the game and the stats from there last game. So in each area of the game they know where they are over or under achieving.

Imagine that, so rather than "run harder" you can actually identify what aspect of the game needs work on and is letting the team down in close games.

We don't even seem to keep stats for most games anymore and if we do what are we doing with them.

In the Premiership there is very little turnover of personel year-to-year or even differences in how each team play.

So if you know who and how your oppenent is going to play in the next game you play, why not have a plan as how to take advantage of what you know?

Duke's Keys to Success:
GROUND BALLS -
Pick up more than opposition
THE FACE OFF GAME -
Gain possession > 55% of the time
TEAM DEFENCE -
Goalie Save % >60%
CLEARING GAME -
>85% effectiveness - score 1 Goal per 1/2
MAN DOWN TEAM -
>80%
TEAM OFFENCE -
Generate 40 spg / >30% shooting pct
score 3 goals per 1/4
RIDING GAME -
create 3 TOs per 1/4
score 1 goal per 1/2
EXTRA MAN OFFENCE -
etc

Interesting to see how the other half do things.
