This one deals with how to win when out gunned

Performance Tip: Winning the Battle When Short on Talent
There will be a time when an athlete or team has to compete against someone or another team that has superior physical talent. This does not mean this should be an automatic loss. Here are ways you can win regardless of the match-up!

Observe
Elite athletes have weaknesses. For example, Agassi is not a good volleyer and Shaq can't shoot free throws. Look for the few deficiencies the athlete or team possesses. By observing and making mental notes, you can steal points, games and other events by exploiting their minor weaknesses.

Work
Physical prowess comes easily to gifted athletes. This does not mean that the rest of us can't master sports skills. It usually just takes a little longer to reach the same level. If you can't match your opponent's natural physical skills, you may be able to make up the deficit by out-working them on the practice or game field.

Remember this quote "Work hard beats talent when talent doesn't work hard!"

Anticipate
Athletes and teams who are a step slower or behind their competition can make up some of the difference in quickness and speed by anticipating what is about to happen. Studying games or practice films, knowing their tendencies in certain situations and then mentally and physically rehearsing the scenarios so you will be able to react in a split second. It takes practice, intelligence, experience, and the physical ability to act on anticipation.

Control
The worst mistake an underdog can make is trying to play the type of game preferred by the superior athlete or team. If a player or team likes to push the pace - slow it down when you have control of the ball. If they like to rely on their quickness and speed - be more physical and knock them off the ball and take them out of their most comfortable shooting position or offense. One hundred percent of your limited ability may be enough to beat a star or great team who plays at 80 percent of perfection.

Survive
Whether it is by skill, luck, or perseverance, your goal is to survive and stay close to the talent-heavy leader or team as long as possible. If the score is close near the end of the game, it doesn't matter who has the most talent. The team or person who wins is often the one who makes a big play, avoids a mental error, is in better physical condition, or just gets lucky.

Everything Is Seldom Equal
When all the other elements that are needed to be successful in sports are equal, superior talent will win. But things are seldom equal. That is when the less talented athlete or team can find ways to win by doing all of the little things the super-talented athlete or team often neglects.

I have faced this issue year after year. Our team can beat more talented teams based off of these characteristics and making sure we are prepared physically. Our goal is to be the strongest and most conditioned team in the nation!

It is time to purchase my 52-week training eBook "Winning the One Goal Game" at www.lacrosse-strategies.com to make sure you and your team are properly prepared for the season!

Performance Tip: Push-ups: How do you compare?
How many push-ups can you do? Push-ups are one of the oldest and most reliable measurements of upper body strength. Compare how many push-ups you can do in one minute to the standards below:

Women
Excellent - > 44
Good - 30 to 44
Average - 20 to 29
Below Average - <19

Men
Excellent - >49
Good - 40 to 48
Average - 30 to 39
Below Average - <29

Question & Answer:

Do amino acid supplements have any value for increasing muscle growth?

No! There is no research that supports an increase muscle growth, strength, or a decrease in body fat. Taken in excess, they may cause gastrointestinal distress and may block the absorption of other amino acids.

Inspirational Quotes:
"The man who wins may have been counted out several times, but he didn't hear the referee." -- H. E. Jansen

"The quality of a person's life is in direct proportion to that person's commitment to excellence, regardless of the chosen field of endeavor." -- Vince Lombardi
