Shooting - Going thru a Slump

Postby UKLaxfan Fri May 07, 2010 3:38 pm

Good article on Syracuse attacker Steven Keogh going thru a slump having his 27 game scoring streak broken and how he dealt with it

http://blog.syracuse.com/orangelacrosse ... an_st.html

"If you want to win a raffle you have to buy a ticket"

" you miss on 100% of the shots you don't take"

If you're going through a slump keep shooting - if you're having a hot streak keep shooting :D

Keep shooting no matter what - hasn't ended my 27 year slump.
I was once part of the winning Pop Lacrosse team that defeated Wigan in the 1992 Greater Manchester Youth Games.

You havent slumped just kept at the same level
League restructure I told you so 10/3/2011(looking good on this one)
Prem division to two leagues will result in the prem division failing and being combined with Nemla 22/3/2012
the proposed restructure to 8 teams in each prem league will only last a couple of years until it has to be restructured again due to teams dropping out. 13/12/2012

27 years... and the rest

you're welcome to come round to go thru a revolutionary new shooting clinic I'm putting on.

It's called the Push - Pull Technique and it involves shooting with both hands (top & bottom) not just the Top Hand as those American chaps like to Coach.

I learned it off this Canadian guy called Gary who seemed quite good, I even filmed the shooting demo he did with his friend who I think was called Tom.

It's a secret though, don't tell anyone Image

Consistency is a skill in itself The Pom. UKLF I can't help but disagree with your teachings, you'll have a whole generation able to shoot and Matt 'the stopper' Croney won't like it one bit!

NLL All Star game this weekend hardest shot record just broken @ 105.9mph by 6'9" Zdeno Chara (Boston Bruins)

Nice to know lacrosse can shoot harder than NHL Ice Hockey

Bobby Hull's shot was once clocked at 118MPH, but back in those days I can't imagine the speed gun was very accurate!

Ned Crotty shooting on a school kid.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=pl ... QXlsHdiTUk

Note a similar wind up independent of shot type/placement, but also how most of the shots he scores are overhand and high to low.

Not really the "hands up" technique you get taught!

Aren't most of those side arm? I counted 2 that I thought went over his shoulder, one of which missed the cage. All the ones he scores change at least half a plain vertically (mid to high/low) and normally fully from left to right or vice versa.
Took me 3 watches thru to get all of that. need more coffee.

I agree that the wind up is the same irrespective of shot placement or style, is it to conceal the ball/stick better from the keeper? I'd have thought your helmet was a better place to hide the stick behind.
Currently M.I.A. - I'll be back.

Interesting blog post analysing the shooting technique of two pros (Drew Westervelt and Kyle Harrison) against two "average joe" lacrosse players (24seven.laxallstars.com bloggers).

http://24seven.laxallstars.com/pros-vs- ... g-edition/

Makes me want to get a camera out and film my entire team and analyse their technique! But then again I'm too lazy.

It's a shame he didn't video the shots so you could go frame-by-frame

The photos skip the release point and go from set up to follow through missing the actual shot

Everyone would benefit from seeing themselves play, there is no better form of feedback than actually watching film.
