Players to Watch NCAA

Postby UKLaxfan Sun Oct 14, 2007 9:15 am

Virginia's Brand New Starting Midfield should be fun to watch.

#39 Peter Lamade : Transfer from Duke 2007
#1 Shamel Bratton: Freshman from Huntington HS, NY
#3 Rhamel Bratton: Freshman from Huntington HS, NY

Speed and agility seem to be the Premium Factors when deciding who is the best Midfielder. This unit has buckets full of both.

Yea, expecting big things from the brattons. Its a shame they've been hyped so much, it'll put a lot of pressure on them to perform.

Couldn't believe how fast the Brattons were in the IL highlights. Had to watch it a couple of times just to be sure the streaming wasn't playing up.

There is lots of hype about the Bratton Twins as they are a bit of out of the ordinary.

1) They are identical twins

2) The are Afro-American in a predominantly WASP sport

3) They are not from a preppy background

4) They are exceptionaly good athletes, they were successful at Football, Basketball & Lacrosse in High School and are now concentrating solely on Lacrosse.

5) They are extroverts on the field, they play a flashy, up tempo style which is high risk - High Reward and they like to celebrate in style.

There seems to be lots of opinion about them love them or hate them they stand out.

For both of them to start at Midfield though as Freshmen at Virginia means that Head Coach Dom Starsia likes what he's seen of them so far in practice.

Peter Lamade got to the Final last year with Duke and is an exciting, aggressive midfield dodger in his own right.

All three of them on one Midfield string should mean there will be fireworks when they have the ball as they are all a threat to goal and 2/3 will be marked by SSDMs.

These could be exciting times for Lacrosse and hopefully a return to Run&Gun or Fun&Gun style of play of late 1980s rather than stall ball, controlled possession play that has been used for success by Hopkins, Princeton in the last 10 years or so.

2008 may be the year of 18-15 scores rather than 8-5 and the return of Offence.

number 3 looks like he weighs about 35 kgs. Is that a deceptive photo or is some work in the weights room going to wing it his way?

ha edit: deceptive photo i think just been youtubing! Bloody quick and a good shot!

Do you mean this one by Shamel Bratton?

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ojkGLvnTb ... re=related

He dodged Sam Payton (Duke/England) out of his boots

Overall they had quiet freshmen seasons compared to the hype...

but the best thing about freshmen is that they become sophmores :?
