Defence Camaraderie
Has anyone else found that the d-unit in their squad is the most iconic and revered section of the team? Obviously not in a 'oh we're pukka cause we're large and scary so you must worship us' way but more along the lines of 'you guys hit people with THOSE? Ooh I want a go' or 'yeah our D guys are animals. No house training either.'
Nice to be back by the way

That was a top class (all be it dirty) tour
As an ex front row man the 99 call (or RED as we used)is something that worked to good effect against a couple of teams that thought they could get away with beating up on our scrum half or full back. I wouldn't condone dirty / violent play in any sport but there is a time and place for everything and when playing number 2 there's a lot that happens in the tight that the ref could never see even with with the best will in the world .

We definitely have a lot of wannabe D-men on our team. Everyone likes the look of the long stick. Not many are interested in actual defending mainly just hero runs. How do you persuade people that thats not what D's about?

I find nothing more satisfying than flooring the opposition defenders and I'd expect the same courtesy from the opposition. When I played for the then Western Hornets against USA West my biggest and best hit of the game was on one of their longpoles who seemed to think he could just waltz through the defence.

oi there is no reason why you cant take a few runs a game, my standard clear is running through the attacker who foolishly tries to stop me, when i played against USA west for wales, my best hit was when i was clearing the ball got to the half way line and one of there middies shouted 'i got hi...' just as i ran straight in to him sending him flying.
i also scored from our defensive restrainer on sunday

Ah yes the gud old 99 call.
Actually i tried to initiate one of those playing for wales against usa west as one of their players decided to start beeting on Morgan (Rhodrigo27's brother). So i had a bench clear of my own as id just subbed off. The only person who followed me was the team manager who had to drag me off the guy. Not quite what id been led to belive would happen from Box videos!
But back in the rugby days at u16 we had the best 99 call ever. It involved all players from both teams (inc subs), coaches, parents, spectators and even 1 of our injured players hopped over for a bit of a slap! Oh and the reff jumped in and started fighting for the other team, and you thought lax reffs were biased!

I love the glory runs...just not the tail between the legs run after i lose the ball and am too knackered to get back!!.....Tho i did score Vs Mersey at the weekend with one of those....what made it better was that i skinned the Middie who had been trying to beat me all game!!
