Does anyone have any suggestions on drills for stepping to the ball please?
It sounds daft, but on shots directly at me, I tend to stay still and not take the step. Despite hours in the goal, I still can't kick the habit.

Re: Stepping to the ball
put s stick on the ground just in front of you
every shot you have to step over it so you finish with both feet over the stick.
Alternatively, as long as you're not backing away from shots there is nothing wrong with staying in position for shots straight at you.
Trevor Tierney (USA/Princeton) stayed on his line (flat arc) unorthodox but worked for him.
Ultimately it's about stopping the ball and finding out what works for you

Seems really childish, but watch it work. Tie your stick to your helmet. That way if you move your stick, you need to move as well.

Re: Stepping to the ball
Spend time working on driving your bottom hand forward on EVERY shot. Not only will this put your stick in better position to control rebounds, the habit will help pull your body forward, helping you step to the ball on every shot.
I had a similar habit for years- good stick-side and off-stick low, but terrible between the legs. I eventually found that I had to work into my pre-game routine of walking the line. I would always practice my moves to the side, but not straight on. Drill it a lot without shots coming at you and it will become more automatic.
