Goalie Videos/Photos

Postby Golden Eagle #2 Wed Feb 22, 2006 2:03 pm

Hi I'm new to the position (and the sport for that matter)
Just wondering whether anyone here has any advice for me on how to play goal. I tend to let alot in at practise, much more than I do at Roller Hockey, but I've been told that Lacrosse scores are higher anyway :?:
But I'm looking for any photographs or videos that could help me with my keeping and positioning, or even just good advice is very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance

best thing to do is get some of your teammates to just hammer the ball at you a couple of times untill your not afraid of it. you should want the ball to come to you. if it hurts , then you did a good job . get a good crotch guard and u'll have nothing to worry about

Goalie Nation's a good one. Look for the question by yours truly, Will Coleman, in the July '03 section. Ah, the good old days.

Don't worry, I ain't scared of the ball  , its more my difference in positioning I'm getting worried about, I mean, with hockey you come out of net and telescope alot more than lacrosse. I'll check them websites.
Thanks everyone

I didn't say that it is perishable or has a shelf life, although some may argue (and I'm one of them, as I coach hockey and am a ski/snowboard instructor) that techniques change and adapt to the dominant style of play/hardware of the time. Being a rookie I simply want to act on the most up-to-date information. Btw thank you ver much UKlacrosse you have been an invaluable resource :)

I live in the UK though so I've never seen them play

Great video.

In a similar vein

It was worth watching the UKLacrosse goalie in the Blues Final against Jedi. He scored the opening goal. An absolute inspiration.

Goalie Coaching Video

Postby UKLaxfan Wed Jan 24, 2007 6:28 pm

From US Coaches Convention 2007

http://www.lacrossegoalievideo.com

Gotta love the blurb

Who is a Lacrosse Goalie? "When we look at the goalie position in the game of lacrosse, we see a gladiator, a soldier willing to sacrifice his body for the sake of the team. When we listen to the goalie, we hear a general, a field commander, constantly instructing and leading his troops. When we think of the lax goalie we can often imagine a crazy person, someone willing to stand in front of a hard rubber projectile moving over 100 miles per hour... but we also visualize a super athlete. Cat like quickness, ready to attack the in-coming shot. Courage, extreme focus and a will to compete no matter what the odds. These are the true characteristics of a lacrosse goalie." Coach Mark Ward

That's awesome Mully...and it really shows when you're 1-on-1 stand your ground, stand tall and make the shooter think.

Any comments on the Mark Ward vid and whether it's legit cos I'm considering buying it.
