Re: You Make the Call (US Lacrosse)
I initially thought the piece was about the first contact by the Loyola middie at about 5 seconds into the clip. He took a vicious tomahawk chop on the Duke long pole and looked to hit him in the back when I first viewed it. I thought it was a certain slash but maybe he caught the upper arm, thus no...

A couple of threads from IL: http://forums.insidelacrosse.com/showthread.php?t=134689 http://forums.insidelacrosse.com/showthread.php?t=191037 Interesting post by one chap: 'My experience with mcla coaches is if you contact them they will contact you back and you can start a relationship with them....

Re: Referees
An observation from an ousider but someone from a nonhotbed area of the states that deals with some of the very same issues. UKlaxFan started by characterising the lack of referees as "critical." Using a medical analogy, that means the patient is going to die if the condition is not addres...

Re: The Great Big Bad Durham Thread
Just to add, I think it would be great to see a progressive cap, if Universities were capped on giving 3 or 4 scholarships for top performing players, they would be able to help coach the players and as a result show other Universities how much of an improvement this would make on the team. In time...

Re: The Great Big Bad Durham Thread
The main problem is that they choose to spend this money importing a starting 9 or 10 of NCAA players rather than developing the English heart of the sport. ... but it should not be encouraged to dissuade the best of British guys by forcing them to play in university second teams because a bunch of...

Re: Overtime?
To be fair, Nik's problem is over training - 50 years of it! BeeZee (Over trained ref.) Pretty funny, BeeZee. There a was an NFL player this year who was suspended 4 games after failing a drug test. He appealed his punishment. He claimed that he didn't use PEDs, the results showed a false positive ...

Re: Overtime?
not drawing is a very american obsession....they like all there sports to be high scoring and as a result to usually have a decisive outcome. Yes and no. Yes, declaring a winner is in our nature. No, baseball is a low scoring game and will always be our "national pastime" (despite the NFL...

Durham lacrosse experience from a U.S. player
Here is an article about the Durham University lacrosse team and one player's journey there after playing in the states at an MCLA school. http://www.collegelax.us/news/2011/01/06/across-friendly-waters-09-championship-rivals-now-teammates-in-uk/ btw, the collegelax.us website is 100% dedicated to c...

Re: All Access: MCLA Colorado
Very good article. However, hope the readers don't get the idea that all MCLA teams are like CU. The many MCLA teams are quite diverse in facilities and support from the university. Not all teams have an indoor practice bubble at their disposal nor do the players have to pony up 2-3K to be part of t...

Re: Statistical Analysis of Men's Lacrosse
Marc, I'm guessing you've heard of Daryle Morey, GM of the Houston Rockets. He seems to be leading the way in the NBA by gathering/using data and statistics to shape the franchise. Computer Science degree from Northwestern and MBA from MIT. I was initially lukewarm and unsure about his hiring as he ...

Re: Statistical Analysis of Men's Lacrosse
I remember playing 5-a-side footy with colleagues from work, every Wednesday 6-7pm the players changed week to week as did the teams, just 10 blokes running around for a bit of fun. We never kept score as it wasn't about that, if a game was one sided, we switched the team up to make it more even. S...

Re: Statistical Analysis of Men's Lacrosse
Unfortunately you would need an army of scorekeepers per team to record every finest detail, some sports do have this, but not many.[/quote] Respectfully disagree. It can be somewhat diffucult but can be managed with the scorekeeper and the person keeping the clock serving double duty as a spotter c...

University fees rising
I watched BBC World News America this evening regarding the possible tripling of university fees.
If these increases are enacted could it prompt more UK laxers to consider playing in the states?

Re: Fair or not fair?
Pikey, I probably shouldn't voice an opinion because I'm not familiar with SEMLA league play but I will anyway. I'm a bit old fashioned, and just plain old, so I tend to have little patience for those who cuss and curse. I also believe the officials are often unjustly abused and even if not perfect ...

Re: Helmets for women's lacrosse?
While the eternal optimist, I can also be quite the cynical at times. So when I see a story like the one discussed I don't always take things at face value. Media can distort or slant almost anyhting to enhance their position. Regarding the "doctor." The piece states "Micky Collins, t...
