Re: County Tournament, 21st October

The intention is that you should play for the County where your Club is based.

Re: County Tournament, 21st October

There's been a misunderstanding over who was leading the organisation for this event, so apologies for the late confirmation of the details. The Tournament will be on Sunday October 21 at Reading's home ground, the Ibis Club. First round of games at 11am, expect the final will be approx 4pm There wi...

Re: Updated SEMLA Clubs Checklist

I 've had two other clubs tell me that there are players missing from the print outs, so it looks likely that not all of the database has carried over as was originally thought. This means that every club should ask for a print out and then get the missing players to register. technically , if you'r...

Re: Referee Panel unfit for purpose?

Getting lots of people to do the level 1 course has been traditionally easy(ish) The numbers of those completing that stage is very large and has been for years. If that was the answer then we'd have no issues, however, it is only part of the picture. Many of those doing the course simply do it to l...

Re: Referee Panel unfit for purpose?

The apparently simple 'free team' idea was tried in the South and fell apart for the equally simple reason that getting 4/6/8/10 players who are qualified/capable/willing/can afford the time, money and transport to travel to ref games from each team is grasping at straws. The distances involved in t...

Re: Updated SEMLA Clubs Checklist

Mandy, I asked the same question of Caroline Royle the ELA Marketing manager and here is the relevant part of her reply Currently it is not possible for admins to access our database, however as stated below we can provide a CSV download of each club to their club admin upon request. This will inclu...

Re: Exchange Sticks

Ok, I'll have a go I think the confusion is over the use of 'exchange' twice for different circumstances and the fact that two separate rules are tied together into one sentence. Maybe it would be clearer if it said; 1. A player on the field may replace his crosse only when it has been broken. 2. Pl...

Re: Ken Gallucio Cup

To answer Mr Git, the costs for the officials were an expected part of the bid. The challenge is that without knowledge of how many refs are available locally for definite, an estimate has to be made as to how many will need flights, how many will need two or three nights hotel accommodation etc etc...

Re: Ken Gallucio Cup

I would repeat that my proposal would have no more chance of success than the current arrangements unless the national associations covered the costs of entering their nominated club or clubs. For the ELA to budget for £10k for a men's and a women's team every four years (£2.5k per year put into a s...

Re: Ken Gallucio Cup

As the organiser of the Reading bid and as SEMLA President I have several comments on this topic, not necessarily consistent with each other! General Comments 1. I would love to see a European Club Championship as a major part of the calendar. 2. It is almost inevitable that many of the same players...

Re: County Tournament, 21st October

When SEMLA announced the re-introduction of the County Tournament, one of the underlying objectives was to stimulate more people to get involved with organising and coaching. There is too much reliance on too few people to do everything and therefore a shortage of volunteers to take on vital roles i...

Re: BUCS Promotion Playoffs

How can we seriously expect the game to grow if such a public and, undisputed by all sides, display of referee abuse is simply allowed to pass by? How can we expect to encourage new referees unless both SEMLA and NEMLA have a consistent zero tolerance policy and ensure that every referee, beginner o...

Re: BUCS Promotion Playoffs

Whophead, I urge you to report the abuse to the BUCS authorities. Until every ref adopts a zero tolerance policy we cannot expect numbers or standards of referees to improve. Reporting abuse is not a sign that you failed but that the team's players/coaches/management failed. if you don't report it t...

Re: Centurion SEMLA Sixes

It was obviously disappointing that the attendance was down on previous years and the weather made this year's event more of a trial of endurance than a pleasure. However, we must bear in mind that for many years the Sixes was the only end of season tournament and there was nothing at all anywhere i...
