Re: Sports on Sky Sports TV Channels

agreed, one of the transitions into a women's sport is that you have to factor in that at some point the women umpires are going to have a family which will take them away from the game and there is no guarantee that they will return either. Rarely a problem in Men's lacrosse

Re: Reentry and crease violations

Dan, the first foul should have had a whistle so you basically ignore the second technical foul. Need to be quicker on the whistle!! A personal foul would then make it simultaneous.

Re: Sports on Sky Sports TV Channels

Now that I have recently taken over as the Officiating Manager for England Netball (getting paid to do what I love) I can tell you that the sport of Netball is much bigger than lacrosse. That is no disrespect to Lacrosse, but 98% of school age girls play netball at some point in school. Unfortuately...

Re: is there such a thing as unnecessary roughness?

Moaning Git and UK LaxFan have it in one. using force then necessary for the situtation Vague for a reason. It needs to be. teh rule book could never cover all the eventualities. Ecessive holding - headlock thats a hold -but unnecessary. For those that are interested, here is the UR rule from the NF...

Re: Whats the right call?

Moaning Git is entirely correct in his assessment of when the count starts. We have had over 100 people through referee courses this year. You would think that this would now be understood by the masses, but sadly it is not. For the record, if a player suggests to me in such a forthright manner that...

Re: Whats the right call?

Is there any reason this wouldn't be called as interference for an unintentional trip? Naturally depending on aggression involved... You need to look at the interference rule to see why you should not make this call. Rule 52 Interference 52.1 A player may not interfere in any manner with an opponen...

Re: Goalie Equipment

The rule book suggests field lacrosse equpment so again footbal shin pads are ambigious. However I would not prevent a player from wearing football shin pads as they conform to the shape of the body.

Re: Shooting through

Either works, but I think the best of the two wold be Unsportsmanlike Conduct - suggest 3 min and even an expulsion, but this only guidance and not perscriptive. The official on the day needs to take the whole play into context before administering the penalty.

In addition, the designated goalkeeper shall wear a throat guard, a chest protector and a box/cup. T...

Re: Shooting through

I fully support Moaning Git on this one. This is why we referee - to make the tough decisions. Agree that this can be an expulsion, but we also need to be sue that the intent was there. There are plenty of dfenders that will take one for the team, but that is not what we are trying to prevent.

Re: Mesh Colours

legal

This rule is before the FIL Rules Committee with a view to bringing a rule change to the General Assembly. The consensus at the moment appears to be that the FIL should adopt the NCAA wording of the mesh must be all of one colour.

Re: Stick Checks

Okay so we have a few things to deal with here. To check a stick, the play must be dead, so between quarters would qualify. The stick check must be called by the head coach. So in the absence of a head coach his powers would devolve to the captain - Did either of those call it - If not Illegal Stick...

Re: Crease diving, legal?

The goalie is entitled to save the ball within their crease so I would say that a crease diver that makes contact with the goalie (irresepective of how) has created the foul.

Re: Whats the right call?

When I assess officials I look at what is known as penalty selection. For many infractions you can call either a technical or a personal. Holding is a good example. A simple hold is a technical, but a headlock could be construed as unnecessary roughness, a personal foul. A good official knows which ...

Re: Time warnings end of quarters

The referees are under no obligation to give warnings of time left in the quarters. Since the referees are the ones that have to keep time, it is difficult to keep looking at your watch and the game at the same time. I try to give 1 minute or as close to as I can, and will rarely get the 30 seconds ...

Re: Basic award ref seeks enlightenment

I guess I should have said 'protected' rather than in 'possession'. Where the rule gets complicated is at the point the goalie has raked the ball back to the crease, and with the ball in the crease, tries to get it into his stick. Again, we've been through this, with no clear explanation e.g. a ref...
